PTI founder Imran Khan did not know much about Sohail Afridi as former federal minister Murad Saeed conveyed his name for the slot of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's chief minister, an English daily reported, citing sources within the party.

According to the report, Murad recommended the name of Sohail Afridi to replace Ali Amin Gandapur as chief minister. His name was conveyed to the incarcerated PTI founder through Bushra Bibi's family.

"Imran Khan reportedly did not know much about Sohail Afridi," it said, quoting a party insider.

Besides, the ousted CM Ali Amin Gandapur was not in favour of another protest march on Islamabad and instead called for dialogue as he believed that agitation could cause more bloodshed among party workers.

However, PTI founder Imran Khan is said to have dismissed the suggestion, maintaining that political pressure and street agitation were necessary to advance his agenda and push for his release.

Citing a senior PTI figure, the report said that Gandapur, having witnessed the chaos during last November’s protest, was convinced that talks could yield better results. “He was among those who felt that protests had achieved little and that negotiations offered a real opportunity.”

Gandapur was sure that he could help free Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi if he was given permission to hold discussions independently.
