Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, who is incarcerated at Adiala jail in Ciper, Toshakhana an un-lawful marriage cases, is among the contenders for the coveted post of Chancellor of Oxford University, according to the article published by The Standard on Wednesday.

The opportunity for the former prime minister came when Chirs pattern, former chancellor of the university, stepped down after 21 years.

"I think it is in my own interest and that of the University for me to step down at the end of this academic year, giving the University the opportunity to plan a sensible succession which matches the demands of the 2020s. I say this with a heavy heart, trusting that I will still be able to work for Oxford University (which I love) from time to time," he wrote in his farewell note.

The chancellorship is open to election among Oxford graduates and usually goes to a former politician.

For the first time, the election for the cushiest job will be held online and graduates will not have to attend the vote in full academic dress, according to the university.

The UK-based publication said that the former British Prime Minister Theresa May is a strong contender for the post, however, another strong candidate is the former politician Rory Stewart.

"More wild-card candidates include Imran Khan, the former Pakistani PM and cricketer who has just been sentenced to a further seven years in prison in his home country, and former prime ministers Sir Tony Blair and Boris Johnson," the Standard added in its article.

"The process and timetable for the election of the Chancellor by members of the University’s Convocation will be announced in due course," the university wrote in its statement.

Mr Khan is an Alumni of Oxford University, who graduated from Keble College at the varsity in 1975. He read philosophy, politics, and economics during his time there and even captained the university’s cricket team.

Imran Khan had also served as the chancellor of Bradford University from 2005 to 2014.
