In a major development amid internal discord, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has formally declared himself the patron-in-chief of the party, while Barrister Gohar Ali Khan will continue to serve as party chairman.

The announcement comes on the heels of PTI’s decision to launch a nationwide protest movement against the current government.

Speaking to journalists after a meeting with Imran Khan at Central Jail Adiala in Rawalpindi on Tuesday, PTI Chairman Gohar confirmed that the party founder has decided to personally lead the protest campaign.

According to Gohar, Imran Khan has entrusted Omar Ayub with the responsibility of executing all instructions related to the protest strategy. However, no specific timeline for the protest drive has been shared as yet.

“The PTI founder says he will be the patron-in-chief of PTI from today onwards,” Gohar stated, adding that all key decisions would now be made by Imran Khan himself.

In response to a question about internal party changes, Gohar dismissed speculation about his removal as chairman. “Everyone knows the consequences of not having a chairman. There is no such issue,” he clarified.

Addressing the media further, Gohar noted that while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur had previously overseen protest responsibilities, this time a broader delegation of roles would be adopted. “Different individuals will be assigned different responsibilities for the movement,” he said.

Gohar also emphasized that Imran Khan continues to trust the party leadership and has not voiced any lack of confidence.

Despite preparing for street demonstrations, Gohar reiterated that dialogue remains a preferred option, and Imran Khan has kept the door open for negotiations with the establishment.
