Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has referred to former DG ISI Faiz Hameed as a wasted asset, Express News reported on Thursday.

According to the publication, the remarks from the Ex-prime minister came during an informal talk with journalists at Adiala jail.

"General Faiz Hameed was our asset which was wasted. The army is investigating Faiz Hameed, this is their internal matter, what should I do with it?" Mr Khan said.

The veteran politician welcomed the accountability of former spyman by the country's military.

"It is good that General Faiz Hameed is being held accountable, but then all the corrupts should be held accountable too," he added.

The cricketer-turned-politician alleged that former COAS General (retd) Bajwa removed General Faiz at the behest of PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The decision led to a bitter conversation between me and General Bajwa, Mr Khan informed.

PTI founder also criticised the current speaker of the Punjab Assembly, Malik Ahmed Khan, saying, "IB reports were that he used to sit next to General Bajwa all the time."

The remarks from the 72-year-old politico came after Mr Hameed was taken into military custody for his alleged involvement in Top City case.

"Complying with the orders of Supreme Court of Pakistan, a detailed court of inquiry, was undertaken by Pakistan Army, to ascertain [the] correctness of complaints in Top City Case made against Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd)," the statement iisued by ISPR read.

The military's media wing further said that the inquiry carried out by the forces found sufficient evidence to initiate disciplinary action against the retired general under the Pakistan Army Act.

"Consequently, appropriate disciplinary action has been initiated against Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd), under provisions of Pakistan Army Act.

"In addition, multiple instances of violation of Pakistan Army Act post-retirement have also been established."

The army has initiated the process of Field General Court Martial against the former spyman after taking him into military custody.
