Former Prime Minister and PTI founder Imran Khan dismissed rumors of negotiations with the 'establishment,' stating on Monday that any discussions, if they occurred, would focus solely on upholding the constitution and ensuring the country’s stability.
During an informal conversation with journalists at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, Khan emphasized the public's affection for the Pakistan Armed Forces, attributing it to their role in national defense. He criticized the current government, claiming it was tarnishing the military's reputation instead of bolstering the institution.
Citing recent incidents of violence, including the killing of Punjabi passengers in Balochistan, Khan described a state of lawlessness across the nation, with rising crime rates. He accused the government, which he referred to as a product of electoral manipulation, of failing to address the people’s hardships. He pointed out that the government had neither reduced its expenses nor implemented measures to boost the public's income.
Khan further criticized the administration for increasing national debt while the general population bore the brunt of economic mismanagement. He predicted a surge in inflation following the upcoming budget, describing the government's current policies as self-destructive.
Drawing a parallel with Bangladesh, Khan noted that the people there had taken to the streets to demand their rights, eventually ousting Prime Minister Hasina Wajid. He suggested that the Pakistani people should not be treated like sheep, who can be easily controlled.
Responding to federal ministers’ calls to move past historical grievances for the nation’s progress, Khan compared their rhetoric to Israel’s stance towards Palestinians. Despite being kept in what he described as an oven-like cell, he reiterated that he did not seek any favors from the government.
Khan highlighted the massive support PTI received in the February 8 general elections, which he said rejected the narrative surrounding the May 9 incidents of violence.
He also mentioned that jail staff had been replaced four times, suggesting this was due to fears of him. Additionally, he revealed that his wife, Bushra Bibi, was enduring poor prison conditions, with rats reportedly falling on her while she prayed.
