An American citizen legally hunted a Grey Goral for the first time in the history of Pakistan, marking a significant milestone in its wildlife management. This hunt was carried out under a non-exportable trophy hunting permit in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The officials from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Wildlife Department claimed that the hunt took place in the remote Torghar district by Darren James Millan. The permit was issued under the department’s regulated trophy hunting program.

According to the authorities, the single Grey Goral permit generated $54,500 in revenue. In total, six non-exportable permits for the species were sold during the current season, bringing cumulative earnings of approximately $398,500. These numbers were verified through official briefings and departmental records shared with national media.

80 percent of the income generated through trophy hunting is supposed to be deposited directly into the local conservation committee’s account according to an established policy.

This fund is used for community development projects, anti-poaching efforts, and the protection of endangered wildlife in the region.

The Wildlife Department said the trophy hunting program is designed to achieve a balance between conservation and sustainable use. By involving local communities financially, the residents are encouraged to protect rare species and their habitats rather than exploit them illegally.

The issuance of the first-ever Grey Goral trophy hunting permit is a historic achievement, according to the officials. It is seen as a step towards strengthening conservation efforts while supporting livelihoods in underdeveloped areas.
