Pakistan on Friday accused India of sponsoring terrorism in Balochistan as it detailed the recent Jaffar Express train attack, which resulted in 26 civilian deaths.
Addressing a press conference, Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry stated that the attackers used Indian and Afghan weapons. “Evidence suggests foreign involvement, with India being the primary sponsor,” he said.
The attack took place on Tuesday afternoon when Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) militants ambushed the Quetta-Peshawar train, which was carrying 440 passengers
Gunmen opened fire and took hostages, prompting a two-day security operation that ended on Wednesday evening.
According to the ISPR chief, all 33 attackers were eliminated, and no hostages were harmed during the final phase of the rescue mission.
Providing updated figures, Lt Gen Chaudhry reported that 26 passengers were killed, revising an earlier count of 21, while 354 passengers were safely rescued.
He also shared details on broader counterterrorism efforts, stating that “Pakistan has conducted over 59,000 intelligence-based operations in 2024, and 11,654 so far in 2025, averaging 180 operations per day.”
He added that 1,250 terrorists had been neutralized in the last two years, while 563 security personnel had lost their lives in the fight against militancy.
