An Indian woman, who married a Pakistani national after arriving in the country on the pretext of Sikh pilgrimage, will be sent back to India through the Attari–Wagah crossing today.
52-year-old Sarabjit Kaur hails from Amanipur village in Kapurthala district, which falls under the jurisdiction of Talwandi Chaudharian police station.
She had entered Pakistan on November 4, 2025, as part of a Sikh jatha comprising 1,932 pilgrims who travelled to attend celebrations marking the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak.
While the pilgrimage group returned to India on November 13, Kaur remained in Pakistan. During her stay, she converted to Islam, took the name Noor Hussain, and married a man identified as Nasir Hussain, a resident of Sheikhupura. Their marriage reportedly took place on November 5.
The matter drew widespread attention after a nikahnama and video clips circulated online, in which Kaur said that she had known Nasir for nine years and first met him while working in Dubai.
On January 4, Pakistani authorities detained Kaur and Nasir during a raid in Pehre Wali village near Nankana Sahib. The operation was carried out by a joint team from the Intelligence Bureau and local police.
The arrests were later confirmed by Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee president and Punjab minister Ramesh Singh Arora, who said arrangements were being made to deport Kaur as her single-entry visa had expired.
