Judicial Commission summons officials in Gul Plaza fire probe

The judicial commission formed to investigate the Gul Plaza tragedy has issued notices to multiple government departments and officials.
According to details, the commission has also summoned the president of Gul Plaza as part of the inquiry proceedings.
The judicial inquiry is being conducted by Sindh High Court Justice Agha Faisal, who has been tasked with examining the circumstances surrounding the incident
Among those called to appear on 18 February are the Senior Director Land, Chief Fire Officer, Deputy Commissioner South, SSP City, DIG Traffic, CEO of the Water Corporation, Director General of SBCA, DG Rescue, and the CEO of K-Electric.
The fire broke out on 17 January 2026 at Gul Plaza, a well-known shopping centre located on MA Jinnah Road in Karachi. The blaze continued for three days, claiming the lives of more than 70 people.
Earlier, political parties and civil society groups had expressed no confidence in the Karachi Commissioner’s report and urged the Sindh government to constitute a judicial commission to ensure a transparent investigation
