Karachi commissioner summons fire chief as investigation into Gul Plaza inferno begins

Karachi Commissioner Hasan Naqvi has initiated an investigation into the deadly fire that broke out at Gul Plaza, following directives from Sindh Chief Minister, sources said on Monday.

According to sources, the commissioner contacted Fire Chief Officer Muhammad Humayun Khan via telephone and later summoned him to the Commissioner House to seek details regarding the incident. The chief minister has appointed the Karachi commissioner as the head of the inquiry committee tasked with determining the causes of the fire.

Sources said the commissioner has been directed to complete the investigation and submit a detailed report to the Sindh chief minister after identifying the factors that led to the blaze at the commercial building.

Meanwhile, the death toll from the Gul Plaza fire has risen to 27. Police Surgeon Dr Sumaiya Syed told Geo News that so far, 27 bodies have been shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi. She said DNA samples from 50 families have been received to help identify the victims.
