The Pakistan Meteorological Department on Friday predicted that torrential rains are likely to hit the port city from August 3 (Saturday).

"Strong monsoon winds may affect Sindh, including Karachi, from the Arabian Sea from August 2 [Friday]," the weather department said.

According to the PMD, the third spell of heavy monsoon rains will continue in the metropolis till August 7.

The mercury in the provincial capital is expected to hover between 31 to 33 degrees Celsius.

The Met office said that several parts of Karachi will receive 40-60mm downpours, while some areas could experience 100mm rain.

The heavy rains also pose a risk of flooding in low-lying areas of Sindh, including the megapolis.

PMD warned that heavy rains, wind, and thunderstorm may cause damage to weak structures and solar panels.

However, Karachi has been witnessing light to moderate rains for almost two days, with some areas receiving heavy showers too.

The areas received light showers last night included Saddar, II Chundrigar Road, Baldia Town, Defence and North Karachi.
