Karachi police arrest three suspects in Dr Akash murder case

Police have arrested three suspects allegedly involved in the fatal shooting of a doctor during a robbery outside a bank in Karachi's Frere area, officials said on Wednesday.

Addressing a press conference, DIG South Asad Raza, accompanied by DIG CIA Muqaddas Haider and other officers, said the suspects were apprehended within 36 hours of the incident.

According to the police, Dr Akash had arrived at the bank when the suspects, who were already present in the area, targeted him. Investigators alleged that one of the suspects conducted reconnaissance and alerted his accomplices before the robbery.

Police said investigators reviewed more than 100 CCTV camera recordings while tracing the suspects. The robbery involved two motorcycles and a car, while three suspects arrived on two motorcycles, officials added.

The suspects were arrested in the jurisdiction of Defence police station. Police said part of the stolen cash had been recovered, and efforts were underway to recover the remaining amount.

Dr Akash was shot dead during the robbery outside a bank in Karachi's Clifton area earlier this week, where Rs2.5 million was reportedly being targeted. The investigation into the case is ongoing.
