Karachi is experiencing severe traffic congestion due to ongoing protest sit-ins by religious groups and New Year's celebrations, causing significant inconvenience to the public.

Commuters, particularly those heading home after office hours, are facing significant challenges as they navigate through the gridlocked streets.

The protests and large crowds for New Year celebrations have left many people stuck in traffic for extended periods, adding to their daily struggles.

As of 9:34 PM on December 31, 2024, the following roads are closed to traffic due to the ongoing protests:

  1. Abu al-Hasan Isfahani Road (Abbas Town) – Completely blocked for traffic.
  2. Nawab Siddiq Ali Khan Road (Nazimabad No. 1) – Both directions are fully closed.
  3. Kamran Chowrangi to Mausamiyat Road – Blocked for traffic.
    Note: Traffic coming from Mausamiyat towards Kamran Chowrangi is being diverted in a double lane.
  4. Numaish Chowrangi – Completely closed for traffic.
  5. Ancholi, Shahrah-e-Pakistan towards Sohrab Goth – Blocked for traffic.
  6. Main Manghopir Road (Habib Bank Chowrangi to Waleeka Hospital) – Traffic is blocked.
  7. Business Recorder Road (Lasbela to Guru Mandir) – Both directions are closed for traffic.
  8. Gul Bai (Towards Pracha Chowk) – Blocked for traffic.
  9. Shahrah-e-Faisal (Baloch Colony towards City Service Road) – Closed for traffic.
  10. Shahrah-e-Liaqut Road (Fresco Chowk) – Blocked for traffic.
  11. Main University Road (Near Known Bakery towards Safora) – Traffic is blocked.
  12. Nagan Chowrangi (Bus Stop towards Sakhi Hassan & Sohrab Goth) – Closed.
  13. Main University Road (Nazim-ul-Ala Cut) – Both roads are closed for traffic.
  14. Shahrah-e-Orangi Town (Metro towards Poni 5) – Traffic is blocked.
  15. Qaidaabad (Murghi Khana towards Malir) – Completely closed for traffic.
  16. Tower Chowk (Jailani Center) – Closed for traffic.

These disruptions are part of the ongoing protests, and authorities have urged commuters to use alternative routes for their journeys.

Local law enforcement has been deployed to manage the situation, but heavy congestion is reported throughout the city due to these closures.
