After a spell of heavy downpours, the temperature in the port city is likely to drop to single-digit for the next few days, particularly at night, a weather analyst said on Saturday.

The weatherman Jawad Memon said the minimum temperature forecast in Karachi for the coming days is 9-11 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature is likely to remain between 14-16 degrees Celsius.

According to the meteorological analyst, dry weather will prevail in the metropolitan city. Moreover, the weather is expected to remain clear but chilly during the next 3-4 days.

The Pakistan Metrological Department (PMD) has also forecast a spell of strong winds under the influence of a system of westerly waves.

Strong winds will sweep through the city at a speed of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour (kmph), The Met Office added.

A day earlier, Karachi received four spells of heavy rain throughout the day and the weather turned chilly.

I. I. Chundrigar Road, Saddar, Sarjani Town, Malir, North Karachi, Korangi Industrial Area, Orangi Town, Baldia Town and Manghopir Northern Bypass and other areas recived moderate to heavy downpours.

On the other hand, Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz said the ongoing cold wave and rain in Karachi in the month of March are 'unusual'.

It should be mentioned that Karachi’s record low was in January 1934, when the temperature dropped to zero Celsius whereas the lowest temperature of December was 1.3 degrees Celsius in 1986.

However, the last lowest temperature was 7 degrees Celsius in 1979.
