The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a further drop in temperatures in Karachi toward the end of the ongoing week, with colder conditions expected across the city.

PMD spokesperson Anjum Nazir Zaigham told Express News that chilly weather would continue during the early morning and night hours over the next few days. He said temperatures are likely to fall further on Saturday and Sunday.

According to the PMD, the minimum temperature in Karachi could drop to single digits, with readings as low as 9 degrees Celsius expected during the weekend.

The spokesperson explained that a cold wave was anticipated at the start of the week, but persistent upper-air troughs over Karachi have so far prevented the full impact of Siberian winds. He added that if the Siberian winds become active, a further increase in cold intensity is possible.

The PMD said that fog affected parts of the city on Monday morning, reducing visibility to 1.8 kilometres. The minimum temperature in Karachi was recorded at 13 degrees Celsius, one degree higher than the previous day.

Meanwhile, the lowest temperature in Sindh was recorded in Mithi, where the mercury dropped to 5 degrees Celsius, the department added.
