Karachi experienced a change in weather as monsoon rains brought down the temperature of the city in August.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature of the city was recorded at 23.5 degrees Celsius last night.

The weather department noted that the normal average minimum temperature for August is 26.7 degrees Celsius, making last night's temperature 3.2 degrees Celsius below normal.

This is the second lowest temperature recorded in August since 2019, when the minimum temperature was 23 degrees Celsius.

The lowest August temperature ever recorded in Karachi was on August 7, 1984, when the mercury dropped to 20 degrees Celsius.

The change in weather happened as a rare cyclonic storm formed over the Arabian Sea in August.

However, the cyclonic storm Asna has moved away from Sindh's coast and headed towards Oman.

Under the influence of the system, the port city has been experiencing moderate to heavy rain for four days.

A day earlier, stormy winds hit parts of the metropolis, causing trees to fall, which claimed the life of a woman near Stadium Road.

As per the advisory issued by PMD, moderate to heavy rain is expected to continue in Karachi till August 31.
