The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has proposed another increase in municipal charges, citing the need to improve urban services.

According to officials, the proposal will be presented before the city council. They emphasized that the revised charges are minimal and aimed at enhancing civic facilities in the city.

The revenue collected from these charges will reportedly be utilized for public welfare and urban infrastructure.

As per the proposal, residents using up to 50 electricity units will remain exempt from the municipal charges. However, for those consuming 51 to 200 units, the fee will increase to Rs50 — a Rs30 hike. Consumers using 201 to 300 units will pay Rs100, marking a Rs50 rise.

Those using 301 to 400 units will now be charged Rs200, while users of 401 to 500 units will pay Rs225 — both reflecting a Rs100 increase. Consumers in the 501 to 600 unit bracket will see their charges increase by Rs125 to Rs275. Similarly, those using 601 to 700 units will pay Rs300.
