The government of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has declared its intention to organize a memorial ceremony for the late workers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on December 25 at Minar-e-Pakistan, simultaneously challenging the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) to conduct a rally on the same date.
KP officials asserted their confidence in demonstrating that a greater number of attendees would support Imran Khan at their event compared to the gathering arranged by the opposition party.
The announcement was made by Sohail Afridi, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister, during a session of the KP Assembly on Monday.
Afridi expressed his indignation regarding the violent suppression of unarmed demonstrators on November 26, lamenting the decline of moral standards in the nation and suggesting that some individuals are too compromised to advocate for justice.
He said that their presence at D-Chowk in Islamabad was to assert their constitutional and legal rights, and noted that had former Prime Minister Imran Khan not been wrongfully imprisoned, they would not have felt compelled to protest in the capital.
He further mentioned that despite their persistent efforts over the past two and a half years to seek justice through legal channels, they have been met with disappointment.
Afridi disclosed that PTI workers had reached out to judges for intervention and remarked on the unprecedented endurance of the resistance movement led by PTI members. He also pointed out that the party's leadership continues to face unjust imprisonment.
He challenged the PML-N to organize a rally in Punjab on December 25, asserting that if the PTI gathering did not surpass the attendance of the PML-N's event, he would resign from his position.
