Lahore man gets 7 months in jail for remarrying without first wife's consent

A Lahore Family Court sentenced a man to seven months in prison and imposed a fine of Rs500,000 for contracting a second marriage without his first wife's consent.
Judge Adnan Liaquat announced the verdict, with Barrister Usman Rashid Cheema representing the petitioner, Zuna Nasir.
According to the verdict, Zuna Nasir's husband, Muhammad Aurangzeb Khan had violated Section 6(5) of the Muslim Family Law Ordinance by not obtaining permission before his second marriage.
This section requires written consent from the first wife for a polygamous marriage.
The court ruled that the man must serve a sentence of seven months in prison and failure to pay a fine of Rs500,000 will result in an additional month of imprisonment.
