Vote counting is currently in progress following the active participation of millions of Pakistanis exercising their voting rights to choose their representatives for a five-year term amidst nationwide internet and mobile service shutdowns, political unrest, and incidents of terrorism.
A total of 17,816 candidates, both independent and affiliated with political parties, competed for seats in various legislative bodies, including 265 in the National Assembly, 296 in the Punjab Assembly, 130 in the Sindh Assembly, 113 in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly, and 51 in the Balochistan Assembly.
Voting took place in 855 out of 859 constituencies; however, due to the unfortunate demise of a candidate, voting will not occur in NA 8, PP 266, PK 22, and PK 91.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has thus far released unofficial results for 212 out of the 265 National Assembly seats.
According to unofficial reports from the electoral watchdog, independent candidates are leading with 90 seats, followed by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) with 60 seats.
Additionally, the Pakistan People’s Party has secured 48 National Assembly seats thus far. Meanwhile, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) has won eight seats, while the Independents Parliamentary Party (IPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) each secured two seats.
