Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar stated that the jail manual does not stipulate that a prisoner’s medical treatment should be carried out according to their personal wishes.

Speaking during a Senate session, he said that Imran Khan was taken to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) as per schedule and with his consent, where he was examined by four specialist doctors.

The minister explained that the timing of Imran Khan’s transfer to hospital is determined at night while taking security and law and order considerations into account, and he is transported when traffic flow is minimal.

According to Azam Nazeer Tarar, Dr Nadeem from Al-Shifa Eye Hospital and Professor Arif from PIMS examined Imran Khan. Following consultation among the doctors, a second dose of medication was administered.

He reiterated that the jail manual does not state that a prisoner’s treatment should be conducted according to their own preference.

He further added that Imran Khan was also examined by a Professor of General Health and no alarming concerns were identified.

The minister said he was issuing the health statement on the advice of the Executive Director of PIMS and that they pray for Imran Khan’s good health.

Azam Nazeer Tarar concluded by saying that the PTI founder has unfortunately been convicted, and only the courts have the authority to grant his release.

He emphasised that it is not possible for his case to be prioritised over others simply because he is a former Prime Minister.
