A man has been miraculously found alive more than two weeks after a marble mine collapsed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Mardan district, rescue official said.

The man was pulled out on Thursday from a tunnel in the Darang area of Rustam tehsil, 16 days after the incident.

The mine collapse, which occurred on March 31, had left eight workers dead and three others injured. One labourer, identified as Khyber from Mohmand district, had been missing since the incident.

Rescue officials later confirmed that the man recovered alive has been identified as Abdul Wahab. In a video statement, Rescue 1122 media coordinator Syed Abbas said there had initially been confusion, as one of the deceased was also believed to be Abdul Wahab from Mohmand.

He added that authorities now fear the missing worker, Khyber, may have died in the collapse.

The rescued man was shifted to Mardan Medical Complex for treatment, while authorities have formed an inquiry committee to investigate the incident and confirm the identities of all victims.
