A Karachi court has sentenced a man to 14 years in prison for throwing acid on his sister after a dispute over property.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Abdul Zahoor Chandio convicted Muhammad Ramzan of hurling acid on his sister, Sughra, after she refused to surrender her share of the family property.
In his judgment, the judge described the offence as a “heinous crime” that inflicts lifelong physical and psychological suffering. “Such acts are not merely crimes against individuals but a scourge on society and an affront to public policy,” the order noted.
The court also sentenced Ramzan to two years’ imprisonment for injuring his sister with a knife, and four years each for assaulting her sons, Naeem and Waseem, who were attacked while trying to protect their mother.

He was further directed to pay Rs450,000 in compensation to the victim.
According to the prosecution, the incident occurred in November 2022 when Sughra went to her brother’s house in Manzoor Colony. Ramzan threw acid on her and later pursued her with a knife, injuring both her and her sons.
State prosecutor Irfana Qadri told the court that the accused had squandered his share of inheritance in gambling and was pressuring his sister to hand over hers. When she refused, he carried out the attack.
In his defence, Ramzan denied the allegations, but the court observed that he failed to provide any credible explanation for the victims’ injuries.
