In a heart-wrenching incident, a distressed child in Pakpattan recorded a video of his mother’s lifeless body, saying that she was murdered by her own brother after she declined to deed property to him.

In the video, the child, visibly shaken and standing beside his mother’s body, said, “My mother has been murdered. Amir Bashir killed her for the sake of 50 acres of land,” while sounds of sobbing can be heard in the background.

Following the incident, Pakpattan police swiftly arrested the main suspects, identified as Amir and Asim, and launched a formal investigation into the murder.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed by the victim’s sister, Saila, the deceased, Kanwal Bashir, was killed by her brothers after she refused to transfer her property to them.

Saila stated in her complaint that Kanwal got married to Anwaar Jamal in 2017, he had been ill for a long time and the couple had no children. He had transferred ownership of two houses and a car to Kanwal.

“Kanwal's parents and brothers wanted to usurp Kanwal’s property,” Saila claimed in the FIR.

She further alleged that her brothers had been pressuring Kanwal to transfer the assets. After surviving a prior assassination attempt, Kanwal had moved into Saila’s home for safety.

On the morning of May 31, the assailants stormed Saila’s residence at Fajr (dawn) prayer time. Loud knocking at the door woke up Saila’s husband, cousin, Kanwal, and other family members.

According to the FIR, Saila’s brother dragged Kanwal out of the house at gunpoint, shouting, “Today, Kanwal Bashir will pay the price for not transferring the property to our name.”

He then shot her in the head and neck, killing her on the spot. The assailants threatened the other family members with death before fleeing the scene.

Saila demanded justice for her sister and urged authorities to take strict action against those responsible.
