The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) has agreed to vote for the Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) nominee Asif Ali Zardari in the presidential election, slated to take place on March 9 (Saturday).

The decision was announced by MQM-P Convener Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui while addressing a press conference along with PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Friday night.

“We will resolve issues of Karachi with joint efforts. Asif Ali Zardari as a President will take every possible measure for Karachi," the former foreign minister said in a presser.

Earlier, the MQM-P was reluctant to back the PPP’s candidate in the presidential elections and Senate chairman over its differences with the latter.

However, PPP and PML-N's delegation, comprising Yousuf Raza Gilani, Raja Pervez Ashraf, Syed Khursheed Shah, Naveed Qamar, Sherry Rehman, Saad Rafique and Azam Nazir Tarar, managed to get support from Karachi's biggest party.

Earlier, all allied parties who have formed coalition government in the Centre have agreed to support Asif Ali Zardari in the presidential election.

According to the sources, the former president would secure over 400 votes in the March 9 election.
