Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, speaker NA, has disclosed in parliament that fraudsters used a deepfake recording of his voice to ask for money from a person.
During a session of NA on January 16, Ayaz told lawmakers that someone had created a fake call using his voice to request money. Fortunately, the victim contacted Ayaz directly, and he confirmed he had neither made the call nor asked for money.
The revelation came amid a wider discussion on cybercrime and fraudulent activities affecting not only ordinary citizens but also public figures. Speaker NA expressed concern over the rising misuse of technology by criminals to deceive people through fabricated audio recordings and other fraudulent tactics.
At the same time, during the session, other members of the assembly, including Ijaz ul Haq, brought up issues related to fake traffic challans being sent to innocent people, adding to digital scams being faced by the public recently.
The revelation by Ayaz Sadiq, on the floor of NA, was made to create public awareness about such frauds and for lawmakers to consider stronger laws and measures to protect citizens and institutions from increasing fraud schemes.
