National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq on Friday suspended membership of two PTI-backed lawmakers Jamshed Ahmad Khan Dasti and Muhammad Iqbal for the current session.
This action was taken due to their use of abusive language during President Asif Ali Zardari's address.
During the maiden joint sitting of parliament following the February 8 nationwide elections, PTI-SIC lawmakers staged a protest, disrupting the proceedings while President Zardari emphasized the importance of political reconciliation.
In response, the lower house of parliament adopted a motion introduced by Speaker Sadiq, suspending the two members. The motion highlighted their disruptive behavior, including blowing whistles, chanting objectionable slogans, and displaying banners and placards, all of which violated parliamentary decorum and the Rules of Procedure of Conduct of Business International 2007.
Speaker Sadiq, invoking Rule 21 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly along with Rule 33 of the Parliament Joint Sitting Rules 1973, named the lawmakers and ordered the withdrawal of their membership for the current session.
This decision was made to uphold the integrity and decorum of parliamentary proceedings, as stated in an official statement.
