President Asif Ali Zardari has initiated efforts to defuse rising tensions between the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), directing Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to help reduce friction between the Sindh and Punjab governments.
According to sources, the president met Naqvi at Bilawal House in Karachi, where the two discussed the ongoing “war of words” between leaders of the two coalition partners. Zardari reportedly instructed Naqvi to play an active role in improving coordination and easing political strains.
During the meeting, Naqvi briefed the president on the country’s law and order situation and shared updates on inter-provincial coordination. The discussion also touched upon political grievances that emerged following administrative decisions taken during the Punjab caretaker government, as well as recent statements that have heightened tensions between the two parties.
Sources said Zardari emphasised the need for better coordination at the federal level and advised PPP leaders to exercise restraint in their public remarks to prevent further escalation.
