Incarcerated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan said that the narrative of May 9, a black day in which several military and civil installations were targeted following the former premier's arrest, failed on election day (February 8).
"Nation would not accept that we had committed treason," he said in an informal interaction with journalists at Adiala jail.
A day earlier, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir held a Corps Commanders’ Conference (CCC) at GHQ in Rawalpindi.
In the meeting, army's top brass said the planners, instigators, abettors, perpetrators, and desecrators of martyrs’ monuments and attackers of military installations on May 9 would be punished.
“I fully back the statement of the Corps Commander Conference that the culprits of the May 9 tragedy should be punished,” the former prime minister reponded.
Imran demanded that a commission should be formed to investigate the May 9 riots.
"Neither we are anti-army nor want a clash with forces," the cricketer-turned-politician added.
Khan lashed out at the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for "disregarding democracy by not allotting reserved seats for women and minorities to PTI".
He also alleged that the electoral body was involved in the mass rigging during the February 8 polls.
“We want to hold a peaceful protest against the rigging. Peaceful protest is the right of every party in a democracy,” the former ruling party's head said
Responding to the question about the letter penned to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Imran said that he wrote a letter as "economic stability is impossible without political stability".
Earlier, the PTI founder wrote a letter to the US-based global lender seeking an audit of the general elections before approving any new loans for Islamabad.
