Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir highlighted the growing threat of digital terrorism and fifth-generation warfare on the occasion of Defence and Martyrs' Day on Friday.
In his message, General Munir praised the spirit of national unity and solidarity, saying it is a source of pride for the nation.
He commended the dedicated forces protecting the borders, citing their courage and bravery in the September 6 battle as a torch for future generations.
The top armyman also honoured the martyrs, stating they are a priority, and assured that their sanctity and safety, as well as that of their families, will be protected.
"Faith, piety, and Jihad in the way of Allah are the greatest weapons to deal with enemies."
The Army Chief acknowledged the control of traditional terrorism through bravery and sacrifices but warned of emerging new challenges.
"Digital terrorism and fifth generation warfare are more dangerous and complex, with the cooperation of anti-national elements and foreign organisations making it even more complex," the COAS noted.
General Munir concluded with a pledge for unity, urging Pakistanis to forget their differences and show exemplary unity and harmony for the security and prosperity of the country.
"As long as we remain united, no power in the world will harm Pakistan," he reiterated.
Defence and Martyrs’ Day is being observed across the country today to pay homage to the country’s soldiers and the heroes of the 1965 war with arch-rival India.
Defence and Matryrs’ Day is observed every year on September 6 in remembrance of the 1965 Indo-Pak War, when Indian forces crossed the international border and launched an attack on Pakistan.
However, Pakistan’s Armed Forces managed to foil the Indian attack with courage and resolve.
The major fighting of the war took place between August and September 1965, with both sides claiming victory after it ended in a stalemate following the intervention of the United States and the Soviet Union.
