Pakistan’s security forces successfully thwarted an attempt by Fitna al Khawarij to infiltrate from Afghanistan into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Mohmand district, killing 45 to 50 militants in a major operation, media reports said on Thursday, citing security sources.
The sources said that the militants tried to take advantage of the temporary ceasefire announced a day earlier, but their movement was detected through intelligence-based surveillance.
The Pakistan army launched an immediate operation, targeting a major militant formation near the border. They confirmed that several militants were also injured in the exchange of fire, which continued for several hours.
The latest operation follows a series of counterterrorism actions across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa earlier this week. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), between October 13 and 15, security forces conducted multiple operations in different districts, killing 34 terrorists during various encounters.

The renewed fighting comes shortly after Pakistan and Afghan Taliban authorities agreed to a 48-hour temporary ceasefire, starting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. The truce was reportedly requested by the Afghan Taliban following Pakistan’s targeted strikes on militant hideouts inside Afghanistan, which resulted in multiple casualties among Kharijite elements.
