Operation Swift Retort: a heroic display of defence by Pakistan armed forces

Today, Pakistan commemorates the 6th anniversary of Operation Swift Retort, when the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) dealt a decisive blow to Indian aggression on February 27, 2019.

The operation not only reaffirmed Pakistan’s sovereignty but also exposed India’s false claims to the world.

Following the Pulwama attack on February 14, 2019, the Modi government launched a false flag operation, accusing Pakistan of being responsible for the Pulwama attack without providing evidence. 

Subsequently, PAF surprised the intruding enemy soldiers on February 27, 2019, when PAF shot down two Indian fighter jets for violating Pakistani air space, while wing commander Abhinandan Varthaman was captured and later released by Pakistan as a goodwill gesture.

The Indian Wing Commander's uniform, the remains of the plane, and the teacup were also preserved in the Operation Swift Retort Gallery of the PAF Museum, Karachi.

In the aftermath of the operation, India intensified its propaganda, falsely claiming "300 casualties" and circulating fabricated audio clips. 

However, these claims were swiftly debunked by The Washington Post, which confirmed that no F-16 jets were shot down, effectively dismantling India's narrative on the international stage.

On the sixth anniversary of Operation Swift Retaliation, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to the courage, professionalism and spirit of sacrifice of Pakistan’s Armed Forces.

The prime minister stated that on February 27, 2019, the Pakistan Air Force gave a clear message to the enemy with unwavering determination.

 The enemy was told that Pakistan has the full capacity to protect its borders. India’s aggression in the region was met with a fitting response . The nation can never forget the sacrifices made by the Pakistani Armed Forces for the security of the country. Pakistan always strived to promote regional peace.
