Pakistan and the Federated States of Micronesia, an island nation in the western Pacific, have formally established diplomatic relations.
A joint communiqué was signed by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, and his Micronesian counterpart, Ambassador Jeem S Lippwe, at a ceremony held at Pakistan’s Mission to the United Nations.
Diplomats from both countries, including Deputy Permanent Representative Ambassador Usman Jadoon, were also present on the occasion.
Ambassador Asim Iftikhar said that he was truly happy as the diplomatic relations between the two countries were being established on Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day. He hoped that the new relationship would open avenues for cooperation in human resource development, capacity building, and climate change.

He said both missions would collaborate on key issues at the UN, particularly the promotion of international peace and security. He also pointed out that Pakistan was the 100th country with which Micronesia had established diplomatic ties.
Ambassador Lippwe welcomed the start of what he described as “a journey of friendship and partnership,” thanking Pakistan for its support in facilitating the opening of UN offices in Micronesia.
He expressed his readiness to work closely with the Pakistani mission to strengthen bilateral bonds and extended congratulations on Pakistan’s Independence Day.
Prior to the signing, the two envoys held a brief meeting to discuss potential areas of cooperation both at the bilateral level and within the UN framework.
