A special postage stamp was launched on Saturday on the instructions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to pay tribute to Pakistan's star javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem.

The development came after the renowned sportsman made history by winning the gold medal at the Paris Olympics 2024.

Arshad's remarkable achievement is highlighted on the stamp, showcasing his record-breaking throw of 92.97 metres, which earned him the top spot on the podium.

The athlete also ended Pakistan's 40-year wait for an individual gold medal at the Summer Games.

The "Azm-e-Istehkam" stamp symbolises the country's commitment to development and stability.

The stamp features the image of Minar-e-Pakistan, a national monument representing the country's independence and sovereignty.

The issuance of the stamp on Independence Day aims to inform future generations about the struggle, sacrifices, and determination of the Pakistani government for the country's stability and progress.

Prior to Nadeem's victory, Pakistan's three previous Olympic gold medals were all won in field of hockey, with the team taking top honours in 1960, 1968, and 1984.

Individual medals had been scarce for Pakistan, with only two athletes winning bronze medals - one in wrestling in 1960 and another in boxing in 1988.

The country had also experienced a 32-year medal drought as no Pakistani athlete had won an Olympic medal since the 1992 Barcelona Games.
