A Pakistani citizen was sentenced to death by a Saudi Arabia court on charges of heroin smuggling, the local news agency said on Monday.

According to the Saudi Ministry of Interior, Nadeem Shahzad was arrested and charged with the crime, which was punishable by death under the country's law.

He was sentenced by the local court in a drug case, which was upheld by the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court in the Kingdom.

The country's ministry informed that the death sentence was executed in Dammam today (September 30).

Punishment serves as a warning to individuals involved in drug trafficking in the Kingdom, it added.

"The execution aims to deter others from engaging in similar activities and maintain public safety."

The Saudi authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to combating drug-related crimes through stringent laws and penalties.

Saudi Arabia has a history of imposing harsh penalties for drug trafficking, including the death penalty.
