The Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) administration has stopped accepting new maternity cases following the deadly fire in the hospital’s nursery.
Speaking to a private TV channel, PIMS Executive Director Rana Imran Sikandar confirmed the development, saying the hospital could not accommodate patients beyond its capacity.
He said 15 beds in the children’s nursery had been completely destroyed in the fire. Of the nursery’s 50 beds, only 35 were now functional.
The executive director said children and other patients would be shifted to hospitals in Islamabad and Rawalpindi to manage the reduced capacity.
“Letters have been sent to hospitals,” he said, adding that some children had already been shifted to the Polyclinic.
The decision comes after a fire broke out in the nursery of PIMS’s gynaecology ward, killing 15 newborns, according to hospital authorities.
