PM Shehbaz inaugurates upgraded Karachi Cantt station, launches Shalimar Express

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday inaugurated the upgraded waiting areas and lounges at Karachi Cantt Railway Station during his visit to the city.

The premier also launched the newly upgraded Shalimar Express train service in the presence of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, and Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar.

Addressing the event, PM Shehbaz emphasized that the digitisation of Pakistan Railways and the introduction of modern facilities would contribute to strengthening the national economy. He said the federal government, in collaboration with the Sindh government, plans to modernize the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) and upgrade railway stations across the province and the country.

Highlighting recent improvements, the prime minister noted that Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi had worked to modernize the railway system, starting with Lahore Railway Station, and now Karachi Cantt Station has also received contemporary facilities, including a modern train tracking system.

PM Shehbaz added that the Shalimar Express, running between Karachi and Lahore, had been upgraded to offer better service to passengers. He described Karachi as not only the economic hub but also “the heart of Pakistan,” and reiterated that cooperation with provincial governments would continue to modernize the railway network nationwide and support economic stability.
