PML-N lawmaker and Punjab Women Protection Authority (PWPA) Chairperson Hina Parvez Butt has come under criticism for sharing videos of rape victims and their families during official visits. Critics argue that such videos, even when faces are blurred, risk compromising the privacy and dignity of survivors.

In a recent visit, Hina accompanied police officials to the home of a differently-abled minor girl who was raped in Kot Radha Kishan.

She shared a video from the visit on social media, in which she was seen speaking with the victim and her family. Although their faces were blurred, the move was widely condemned for being insensitive.

This is not the first time Hina has visited survivors of rape or harassment. Under directives from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, she frequently visits female victims of gender-based violence to assure them of government support and promise swift justice.

While many acknowledge her intentions and role in showing solidarity with victims, the repeated filming and online posting of such sensitive interactions sparked backlash.

Social media users  argue that these victims often wish to remain out of the public eye, and making their experiences visible, even partially, an retraumatise them and their families.

Several voices on social media urged that such visits could and should continue, but without the need for videos or publicity.
