Karachi police have arrested the alleged mastermind behind the Rs300 million cash van robbery and recovered Rs200 million from his possession.

According to media reports, the suspect, identified as Muhammad Ali alias Ali Langra, was taken into custody during a targeted operation. Police also recovered vehicles allegedly used in the robbery.

Officials said that the suspect is believed to be the ringleader of an inter-provincial gang operating in Karachi, while other members of the group remain active in different cities. The suspect originally belongs to Swat and has been residing in Karachi for a long time.

The police said the suspect has a criminal history involving bank robberies, locker break-ins, and theft of gold jewellery and US dollars. He had previously been arrested in a robbery case registered in Rawalpindi.

The officials added that he had also been arrested in multiple robbery cases registered at police stations in Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Taimuria, Soldier Bazaar and Defence in Karachi.

The cash van robbery took place on June 12 in Joharabad, following which the DIG West formed a special investigation team under the supervision of the SSP Central.
