President Asif Ali Zardari’s speech on Pakistan Day sparked debate online, with many social media users criticising his delivery, noting that a speech on such a significant occasion should have been coherent and well-articulated. However, they observed that he frequently fumbled throughout.

The Pakistan Day ceremony was held at Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad on Sunday, with President Zardari attending as the chief guest. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, along with the chiefs of the three armed forces, was also present at the event.

Addressing the gathering in the national language, President Zardari emphasised the resilience of the Pakistani people, stating that they have the ability to overcome challenges due to their unwavering spirit.

He also issued a warning to India against any hostile designs while reaffirming the nation's support for its armed forces. Additionally, he highlighted Pakistan’s foreign policy, emphasising its commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with neighboring countries to promote regional peace.

Speaking on global conflicts, Zardari called for the international community to scrutinise Israeli war crimes in Gaza and uphold the Palestinian people’s right to freedom from occupation. He also reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for Kashmiris' right to self-determination.

While the content of President Zardari’s speech touched upon all key aspects of a Pakistan Day address, many viewers pointed out that he struggled with its delivery. He frequently fumbled over words and appeared to have difficulty reading the speech clearly.

Critics argued that, given the significance of Pakistan Day as a moment of national pride, the President should have rehearsed his speech beforehand.

Netizens opined that a national leader’s address on such an important occasion should have been delivered with greater clarity and confidence.

Others, however, defended him, suggesting that his political struggles, years in jail, and personal losses have taken a toll on his health, potentially affecting his speech delivery.
