The initial inquiry report into the deadly PIMS nursery fire has been submitted to PM Shehbaz Sharif, with the findings highlighting serious shortcomings in the hospital’s facilities, treatment and emergency response.

According to reports, former interior secretary Shahid Khan, who headed the inquiry committee, submitted the findings after investigating the causes of the fire. The report recommends disciplinary action against relevant PIMS staff members who were absent during the incident.

It also details difficulties faced by fire brigade and rescue teams during the emergency response and includes statements from rescue personnel, PIMS doctors and administration officials. 

The committee has proposed measures to prevent similar incidents in the future and improve emergency preparedness.

According to sources, the report observed that PIMS facilities and treatment did not meet international standards.
