President Zardari forgoes over Rs800,000 monthly salary due to economic challenges

The newly-elected President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, has decided not to withdraw his monthly salary of over Rs800,000 due to economic challenges being faced by the cash-strapped country.
The decision was announced by the President Secretariat Press Wing on Tuesday via a post on the microblogging site X.
"The President considered it essential not to burden the national exchequer and preferred to forgo his salary," the statement said.
"The purpose of President Asif Zardari's decision is to encourage prudent financial management in the country," the post stated.
Zardari, who had taken oath for his second tenure as the President on March 9, will not draw Rs846,550 in account of his salary.
The pay of the honourable President was fixed at Rs846,550 per month in 2018 as reflected in the Fourth Schedule of the Act.
