Punjab govt approves Rs300m for electric bikes, laptops schemes

The Punjab government has approved a budget of Rs300 million for the purchase of electric bikes and laptops for participants of the Khelta Punjab Games, officials said on Wednesday.

Formal approval has been granted for a supplementary grant, paving the way for the release of funds for the long-awaited initiative.

The project had been cleared earlier, with financial authorisation now completing the final step before implementation.

According to the Finance Department, the Rs300 million allocation will be used to procure 980 electric bikes.

The bikes, based on a government-to-government (G2G) procurement model, will be sourced from Wah Industries.

In addition, more than 600 laptops will be distributed to successful players under the age of 18.

These devices will be provided through the Chief Minister’s Laptop Programme, aimed at supporting both academic and sporting development among young athletes.

Officials said the procurement and distribution process will begin shortly following the approval of funds.
