The Punjab government has proposed that the Centre take decisive action to ban TLP and arrest individuals involved in spreading violence and religious extremism. It also urged the federal government to take stern measures against those inciting unrest and disturbing law and order.

The proposal comes after several days of violent protests in Lahore and nearby areas. Demonstrations brought daily life to a standstill, with roads blocked and protesters clashing with police. The chaos left dozens of officers injured and claimed five lives, including that of an SHO.

Punjab’s administration has requested that TLP be added to the Fourth Schedule and banned from all platforms. The proposal includes prohibiting the group from publishing banners, organising public gatherings, or operating social media accounts.

It has also been recommended that all of TLP’s bank accounts be frozen and its assets transferred to the Auqaf Department. The government has further restricted the use of loudspeakers, warning that anyone found using them illegally will be arrested.

Local authorities have also directed citizens to register unlicensed weapons, while the issuance of new arms licenses has been suspended.

Under the revised law on illegal weapons, anyone found possessing an unregistered firearm will face imprisonment under a non-bailable offense along with a fine of Rs20 lakh.
