Punjab imposes ban on meetings with Imran Khan in Adiala jail

The provincial government in Punjab has imposed a ban on meetings with incarcerated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan at Adiala jail, who is currently serving his imprisonment in Rawalpindi jail in several cases.

According to the sources, the ban was imposed for two weeks by the provincial home department.

Earlier, the jail administration had reserved Tuesday and Thursday for meetings with the former prime minister.

On the other hand, the police have also banned media coverage outside the Adiala Jail.

The law enforcers have instructed the journalists present outside the jail to move 2 kilometres away from the vicinity.

Several videos went viral on social media, showing Adiala jail's media site being covered with tents.

However, the reason behind the ban was not issued by the provincial interior ministry till the filing of this news.

Sources said the prohibition was placed due to the threads of terror attacks on Rawalpindi's jail.

Earlier on March 7, a planned terrorist attack on Adiala Jail was foiled by the police and the Cou­nter Terrorism Depart­ment (CTD).

In a joint operation, three terrorists were arrested by the law enforcers, who were shifted to an undisclosed location.

Police also claimed to have recovered a huge amount of heavy ammunition and explosives from the terrorists.

It is pertinent to mention here that several PTI leaders, including Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Pervazi Elahi, Dr Yasmin Rashid, Omar Sarfaraz Cheema, Ejaz Chaudhry, Mahmood-ul-Rasheed and others, are incarcerated at Adiala jail.
