Christmas celebrations were held with great enthusiasm yesterday at St. Patrick’s Cathedral Church. Members of the Christian community paid tribute to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, crediting him with the religious freedom they enjoy in Pakistan.
The community, while speaking to dialogue Pakistan, recalled Quaid-e-Azam’s historic statement made before the creation of Pakistan, in which he assured citizens "You are free; you are free to go to your temples, you are free to go to your mosques or to any other places of worship in this State of Pakistan," as the state had no concern with an individual’s faith.
While speaking to Dialogue Pakistan, members of the Christian community expressed deep respect and appreciation for the founder of Pakistan.
One participant said that the decorations, crowds, and celebrations clearly reflect the independence they enjoy in practicing their religion, adding that families gather and exchange gifts freely.
Another community member highlighted the joy of the occasion, noting that people wear new clothes, share gifts, and celebrate with everyone, including those from less privileged backgrounds, as Christmas marks a divine blessing.
Others emphasized that Christians in Pakistan feel free and unrestricted in observing their faith, describing Jesus Christ as the savior of humanity.
Several speakers reiterated that Quaid-e-Azam was the primary reason for their independence, stating that it was because of his vision that they are free to practice and celebrate their religion without fear, having been liberated from oppression.
