An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Quetta has convicted Dr Mahrang Baloch and another BYC leader in a case related to the death of a security official during a protest in Gwadar in 2024 that turned violent.
The verdict was announced on Monday by ATC Quetta-1 Judge Muhammad Ali Mobeen after hearing the case linked to the killing of a Frontier Corps (FC) personnel who died from injuries sustained during stone-pelting by a mob.
According to defence lawyer Israr Jattak, the court awarded life imprisonment to Mahrang Baloch and co-accused Sibghatullah Shahji.
The case stems from clashes that took place on July 29, 2024, when activists of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee held a gathering in Gwadar as part of the Baloch Rajee Muchi (Baloch National Gathering), which later turned violent, resulting in the fatal incident involving security personnel.
A detailed written judgment has yet to be issued.
