Ramazan 2025: Minimum Nisab set at Rs179,689 for Zakat

The government has set the Nisab for Zakat for the year 1445-46 A.H. at Rs 179,689, which will apply to savings bank accounts, profit and loss sharing accounts, and similar financial accounts.

The deduction date is expected to occur on March 1st or 2nd, depending on the moon sighting.

On February 26, 2025, the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Security issued an official notification to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and Zakat Collection Controlling Agencies.

The notification clarified that the Administrator General Zakat has officially set the Nisab for Zakat for the 1445-46 A.H. year at Rs 179,689.

Zakat Deduction Guidelines

Zakat will only be deducted from accounts with a balance of Rs 179,689 or more on the first day of Ramzan-ul-Mubarak (expected to fall on March 1st or 2nd, 2025, depending on the moon sighting). If the account balance is below this threshold, no Zakat will be deducted.

The deduction date will be the first day of Ramzan, as per the Zakat and Ushr Ordinance, 1980.

The guidelines are in line with the Zakat Collection Controlling Agencies' ongoing efforts to ensure proper distribution of Zakat funds.
