Islamabad: Prime Minister's Advisor on Political Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, has stated that the 'biggest obstacle' to meaningful negotiations between the government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is Imran Khan.
In an interview, Rana Sanaullah remarked that not only has the establishment clarified its policy regarding political negotiations, but Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had also extended an offer for talks with PTI during a recent address in the National Assembly.
However, the Prime Minister's offer was immediately rejected by the opposition leader, Umar Ayub, in the same session, with a disrespectful attitude.
He emphasized that Imran Khan was never in favor of political negotiations in the past and continues to show no interest in them.
According to Rana Sanaullah, while meaningful negotiations are essential, Imran Khan remains the primary obstacle in the way.
Rana Sanaullah explained that the second-tier leadership of PTI is in favor of negotiations with the government, but despite their desire for dialogue, Imran Khan has rejected their efforts, leading to incidents like the one on November 26.
He further pointed out that this event not only dealt a severe blow to the potential initiation of negotiations but also revealed that Imran Khan disregards the opinions of his party's entire second-tier leadership.
Although the government has been in contact with PTI’s second-tier leaders, they are powerless by the party's founding chairman.
