In a shocking incident, a newly-wed bride in Rawalpindi ran away with the cash and jewellery gifted by her groom, police said on Monday.

According to police, the incident occurred in the Niazi Town area of Nasirabad police station.

Police said the bride asked to meet her father on the second of wedding during which she escaped with valuable items.

A case of the incident was registered against the bride on the complaint of the robbed groom.

The stolen items include 250,000 cash, 3 tolas gold jewellry, and clothes worth Rs120,000, according to the complaint filed by the groom.

The victim, in the FIR, alleged that the person who arranged the marriage had taken him to a hotel in Niazi Town, where he was left waiting while the bride was taken away on the pretext of changing clothes.

The groom's family claimed that the bride and the person then switched off their contact numbers, leaving them with no way to reach them.

The police are investigating the incident and trying to trace the whereabouts of the missing bride.
